The International Accordion Festival is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization returning to San Antonio for its eighth anniversary, on October, 11 and 12, 2008. The IAF will again take place at beautiful La Villita, in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Drawing on the success of last year, 2008 highlights will include:
- Free outdoor concerts all day Saturday and Sunday on two major stages featuring scores of ensembles representing the rich and diverse international accordion musical traditions found worldwide, such as: Zydeco, Panamanian pindin, Polish Polka, Tejano Conjunto, French Canadian, Slovenian and Western Swing.
- Free public workshops featuring master accordionists, dance demonstrations, accordion building and repair presentations, song and squeeze swaps and an "open mic" area;
- Free mini-performances in an intimate indoor space for solo and duo musicians;
- And, plenty of dancing, as well as ethnic foods, beverages, and accordion-oriented merchandise booths.
Last year with help from our volunteers we were able to reach an audience of over 25,000. We are starting early this year to recruit the best volunteers around, so that the folks working this free event are as wonderful as the music it presents. We hope you will give us a hand celebrating the delights of musical diversity and cross-cultural exchange by volunteering for the festival. Our shifts will run in 4 hour slots. If you are available to volunteer in any of the slots please let me know, and please provide all of your contact information. You can email your sign up information to grivera@lakeflato.com or fax it to (210) 224-9515.
