The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is the largest Catholic university in Texas and the fourth largest private university in the state. Originally founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1881, the university welcomes to its community persons of diverse backgrounds, in the belief that their respective interaction advances the discovery of truth, mutual understanding, self-realization, and the common good. In 1925, Incarnate Word became fully accredited by the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. A graduate division was added in 1950, the school became coeducational in 1970, and in 1998 was accredited to award doctoral degrees. Today, UIW is a leader in international education with a presence in China and Mexico and nearly 100 sister schools in 30 countries. |
