Andrei Mihalache

Andrei Mihalache, a third generation Roma accordionist and vocalist from Romania, acquired his knowledge and love of his music from his father and grandfather. In turn, he has carried on the tradition by teaching and working with his own sons, George on hammer dulcimer and Meltiade on violin, in The Mihalache Orchestra. Known as lauteri in Romania, Roma musicians make their living like many traditional musicians worldwide - playing for the important events in community life like weddings, baptisms, anniversaries and the like. A native of Bucharest, Mihalache has traveled widely, recording, performing and teaching both as a soloist and with his sons. In 2007, The Mihalache Orchestra composed the soundtrack for the Danish film "A Man Comes Home."
