La Santa Cecilia

In the Catholic Church, Saint Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians. The six-member La Santa Cecilia's love of music and interest in sharing it with others parallels that of the beloved 2nd century saint whom they honor with their name. However, the group's music is a reflection of their hometown of Los Angeles: a spirited mix of folk and popular Latin American dance traditions such as cumbia, salsa, rumba, norteña and Mexican folkloric rhythms with a healthy dash of jazz, pop and rock. At the center is lead singer Mirasoul whose robust voice rivals that of classic female mariachi singers like Lucha Reyes and Lola Beltran, which is exactly what she grew up singing while accompanying her musician grandfather in LA's Olvera Street market. Mirasoul infuses her voice with an upbeat vibrancy that makes her sound fresh and modern. Equally central to the group's sound is the lively accordion riffs played by José Carlos (who also plays the six-string requinto) that circle around the infectious dance rhythms that keep audiences moving throughout their performances. Guitarist Gloria Estrada, bassist Alex Bendana, percussionist Miguel Ramírez and drummer Hugo Vargas round out the instrumentation and the fun!
