Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole
Cedric Watson represents a new generation of Creole and Zydeco musicians who draw liberally from the roots of both traditions as well as incorporate original songs, new musical ideas and worldly influences. Having grown up in East Texas, he had the best of both worlds listening to Texas blues and country as well as Cajun and Zydeco music from Houston and Southwest Louisiana. Today, he makes his home in Lafayette, Louisiana: the heart of Cajun and Creole country. As vocalist, accordionist and fiddler, Watson can shift easily from the rural Creole sound of legendary La La (Creole fiddle-based folk tradition) musician Canray Fontenot and the red hot Zydeco rhythms of founding father Clifton Chenier. At just 28 years old, Watson moves with ease between the accordion and fiddle with a level of creativity, skill and finesse that comes with years of playing and performing to live audiences. He is a natural entertainer and soulful musician who is always looking for new ways to challenge himself and his audiences.
After memorable stints with some of the great names in Creole music such as Dexter Ardoin and the Creole Ramblers and Jeffrey Broussard and the Creole Cowboys, Watson now fronts his own band Bijou Creole. He's received four GRAMMY nominations and has traveled across the US, the Caribbean and Europe with the hope of bringing what he calls the "Creole Nation of Louisiana" to the world.
